Routina

Routina
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Routina is an iOS application that helps people with ADHD stay on-task during their day by following their routines in a gamified experience. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects approximately 4% of adults in the world, equivalent to 8 million adults in the US or over 100 million adults worldwide. Many of these adults experience several challenges during their morning routine, such as losing track of time or getting distracted by another task. Routina help adults with ADHD with their morning routine and guides them to focus on the tasks needed to be carried out to help them get started with their day.

USER STUDIES
My role within this team was to conduct user studies during every phase of our app development.
Phase 1: Needfinding. During this phase, I conducted user studies with 10 college students who have ADHD. I interviewed users and asked them a list of questions aimed to gather insight on their experiences living with ADHD, how they deal with time management, and whether they would find an app like Routina helpful in their daily lives.
What are some of your favorite things to do?
what are some of your least favorite things to do?
What are your top priorities in life?
What aspect of your life does ADHD affect the most?
Do you have any issues being on time?
What are some things you do to keep yourself on time?
Would you use an app to help keep you on time?
If you did have an app like this, what would some helpful features be?
From this round of user studies, I found that time management, especially in the morning, was something that people with ADHD genuinely struggle with and would genuinely benefit from a tool that addresses the issue. Users told me that they either don’t put much effort into planning their morning schedule and end up often running late, or they have to spend a lot of time planning their schedule in order to stay on time.
Phase 2: Evaluating Prototypes. During this phase, each member of my team created a prototype of Routina based on the results of the user studies from Phase 1. In this phase of user studies, I watched users interact with each of the four prototypes to understand the best and worst aspects of each one.

From this round of user studies, I was able better gauge different color schemes, flows, and features that our users liked best across all four prototypes. After this feedback, our team’s UI Designer created one last prototype that integrated users’ favorite aspects of each prototype.

Phase 3: Revision. During this last phase of user studies, I observed users interact with our final prototype to gain insight on user experience improvements. The most important feedback I received was that users would like to have the ability to have different routines saved. Say, for example, that they have the same routine every weekday and the same routine every weekend, but the weekend and weekday routines are different from each other. In this case, users would like to be able to save routines and set when they would like to use them, so they do not have to make a new routine every night. The other major comment I received was that users would like to be able to reflect upon their routine and see which tasks they finished early, which they needed more time for, and which days they were able to get out the door on time. These two features were added to the app in final production
